Notice: the majority of *third party* ZST map packs located on BZ2maps.com contain duplicate assets, particulary the "mega pack". This causes increased gamestate checking during gameplay. I recommend not installing them until bz2maps address this issue.

Image ZST is an addon team strat map pack for 1.2 that gives you level 3 AI for your turrets and guntowers. It does this by using a custom dll made by Zeeder combined with special assets by TV which comes with the map pack. It does not cause bad assets when used with your standard BZ2 installation. ZST should not be confused with ZTV which is a different project released in the ZTV beta forum.



Install to stock 1.2 Battlezone II root directory, NOT ADDON, use folders option should be on in winzip.

Included Maps:
  • ZST: Cauldron
  • ZST: Crater
  • ZST: Hilo (stock, modified bases)

The only differences from standard 1.2 are:
1) Wobble resistant guntowers (AI3).
2) Turrets (AI3) that can aim straight up.
3) The mortar bike has had it's physics altered for MP.
4) New optional team colors are available.

The bike was tweaked to allow it's use in multiplayer with humans driving them without excessive warping. The bike also had it's AI enhanced using Zero Angel's research into AI behaviours. This is to balance the reduced bike physics and improved GT aim. No players weapons have been altered from their current 1.2 balance.

The team colors options offer some variety from the normal red vs blue, with six new team schemes possible. Mapmakers can set the default scheme for the map in their inf files. Players can restore stock red and blue by entering "game.teamcolors 2" into console (note: cannot return to the custom colors for rest of game).

Troubleshooting:

Q: I see the maps in my list but when I try to start a game I dont get any rec. Or I cant seem to join any ZST games even though I see the maps.

A: You probably installed the maps to the ADDON directory instead of Battlezone II's "root" or main directory.

Fix: Use explorer to examine your addon folder and see if it contains another addon folder within it. If so delete this second addon folder that's inside the first one and then reinstall the map pack to the main Battlezone II directory. That's it, now go play!

An important request to the many mappers who are now utilizing ZST mod for their maps. Please DO NOT include the ZST AI3assets folder in your addon mappacks. This prevents ever patching or upgrading ZST as has been anticipated without bad assets problems. Even if ZST is never patched the presence of duplicate files within the same recursed directory causes increased gamestate checking that could be erroneously attributed to ZST and generally make gameplay annoying.

The most popular IX maps have been converted to ZST's AI3 strat dll by Zeeder. I have changed very slightly some pathing issues and some hi-res texture enhancements that were left off of originals. Fixed the uneven pools setup in Trenton. Sixway's map starting scrap replaced with correct longlife map scrap. Teamed spawn spoints were replaced with neutral spawns on a majority of the IX maps as needed for true random side spawning.

Also included are new maps, one by Fizzy (ICEOlation), and two by me (Oxide and Red Bluff) for a total of 13 maps. This map pack also automatically applies the ZST SOF Patch which fixes overflows caused from server scrolling to maps that set players number to 4.
